Don't be selfish

Saturday, March 23, 2013

Philippians 2:3-5
Don't be SELFISH; don't try to impress others. Be HUMBLE, thinking of others as better than yourselves.
Don't look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

This is something that I am endeavoring to get better at. Sometimes it is hard not being selfish, not wanting our own way. Being selfish is not just a character trait of young children but often times it is a characteristic of many adults. Adults try to disguise it as something else but the bottom line is we are just selfish.

I also like verse 4 about not looking out for your own interests only but looking out for others. Sometimes in situations we have no idea what is actually happening behind the scenes and instead of thinking only about ourselves and how something may effect us maybe we should take a moment and think about how our decisions will effect others. Maybe we shouldn't complain and talk about things that we only think we have full information on. We don't always have access to all the information(and don't need too) but yet we are so quick to make rash decisions or judgements.

I am endeavoring to be careful and thoughtful when making a decision that could effect others. I am taking this scripture to heart and I am willing to think of others interests over my own. I am asking you to do the same.

Don't complain about a situation that you don't have all the details on but be helpful, encouraging, thoughtful, and prayerful about the situation instead. Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Its easy in this world we live in to get caught up in the me and mine first attitude but what about the others?  What will you do to make this scripture a reality in your life and not just words on a page?

Who Woulda Thunk It?

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

We had a very busy week last week with the start of school. Not only the start of school but we have football practices, baseball practices, church, sleep(who are you kidding), work, special services at church on the weekend, and Mookies first travel ball tournament.

Yes, I said travel ball tournament. We said none of our boys would ever play travel ball. Not because we didn't think they could but you know I have never had a love for baseball. I thought that was enough I didn't like baseball why torture myself with it but something has happened. I'm not sure why, when, or how but suddenly I really enjoy baseball. Well, my kids playing baseball anyways.

About 5 or 6 weeks ago we had 3 calls inquiring about our youngest playing travel ball. We thought about it, considered all the options, and prayed about it. We decided we would let him play at least in the fall and we would tackle spring later on. He has had practices and practice games and has done well and has been enjoying it. I have also been enjoying it.

This past weekend on one of the busiest weeks that we have had in a long time was his first tournament. His team played 2 games on Saturday and then Sunday was seeding play. Based on how your team did Saturday you received your seed for Sunday. We were personally hoping for a seed in the middle so that Max could play Sunday. We were not going to miss church for baseball. As it turns out the Mudcats won one and lost one that made or seed 3 out of 6 we were happy with that. We knew Max would have to miss the first game on Sunday but if they won that one without him we knew he could play in the next game. They did win it in 3 innings 15-0 so we knew Max would be there for the next one against the Hitmen. We had played the Hitmen in a practice game and won but they were undefeated coming into Sunday. It would be their first game of the day and our second. Could we do it? We sure did we beat them by 1 run 17-6 and we were not the home team. We had to hold em and we did.

Now the Mudcats were pumped and the Hitmen were sad and leaving seeing as it was single elimination. The Mudcats had a break and then it was time to play ball again. We were in the championship game. No matter what happened the boys would still get a medal but would it be gold or silver? They wanted gold.

We were playing the Copperheads the team we beat on Saturday. They made it to the championship game by defeating the number one seed. So here we are 2 teams getting ready to play their 3rd game of the day. HOT and TIRED but the boys were ready. So off we go. Both teams played well and several innings we traded off having the max runs scored in an inning and having to switch before all the outs. Its the way it is in 8u ball. They played long and hard its the bottom of the sixth inning Max is playing left field we are up by one, two outs, a man on first and one on second I think. A Copperhead steps to the plate, the pitch is thrown, the kid blasts it to left field..... its going to Mookie... I'm nervous praying please God let him catch it.... and HE DOES!!!! We win 20-19!!!

The Mudacts win the tournament!! They battled hard and man did they deserve it. So proud of the Mookie and the Mudcats. Looking forward to our next tournament.

Mothers Day Printable 2012

Saturday, April 28, 2012

This time of year always makes me think about my mother. Not just because Mothers Day is swiftly approaching but because this is the time of year that my father passed away. This year on May 2nd marks the 7th year that he has been gone. I always think about my mom and how she feels around this time. 42 years is a long time to be with someone you love and then for them to not be there. I can't imagine how she feels or how she deals with everything but my mother reminds of the Proverbs 31 woman. She is definitely a virtuous woman and is more precious than rubies. She brought my father good and not harm, she always gets up before dawn to take care of things around the house, she is a hard worker and giving.

So in thinking about her and the Proverbs 31 woman I made a printable for her and for you. It is gray, white, and coral. You can also look at the one I made last year here. All you need to do is right click the picture and save to your computer.

Mom I love you and I am so thankful to have such a wonderful example of woman, mother, sister, and friend.

Proverbs 31:10-30

10 [a]Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies.
11 Her husband can trust her,
and she will greatly enrich his life.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She finds wool and flax
    and busily spins it.
14 She is like a merchant’s ship,
    bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household
and plan the day’s work for her servant girls.
16 She goes to inspect a field and buys it;
with her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She is energetic and strong,
    a hard worker.
18 She makes sure her dealings are profitable;
her lamp burns late into the night.
19 Her hands are busy spinning thread,
    her fingers twisting fiber.
20 She extends a helping hand to the poor
and opens her arms to the needy.
21 She has no fear of winter for her household,
    for everyone has warm[b] clothes.
22 She makes her own bedspreads.
She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns.
23 Her husband is well known at the city gates,
where he sits with the other civic leaders.
24 She makes belted linen garments
and sashes to sell to the merchants.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity,
and she laughs without fear of the future.
26 When she speaks, her words are wise,
and she gives instructions with kindness.
27 She carefully watches everything in her household
    and suffers nothing from laziness.
28 Her children stand and bless her.
    Her husband praises her:
29 “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world,
    but you surpass them all!”
